17 January 2024
Dear Honourable,
On behalf of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank & IMF, it is my pleasure to invite you to our joint
Parliamentary Capacity Building Programme with McGill University, supported by the World Bank and the IMF.
This award-winning programme is intended for Parliamentarians who wish to learn more about the
fundamentals of parliamentary governance, international good practices and their application in parliamentarysettings
within different political systems and cultures. It includes an overview of:
the three arms of government,
different parliamentary models around the globe,
the core functions of parliament,
executive- legislative relations,
the role of an MP,
the relationship between parliament and the media, and contemporary issues in parliamentary
governance.
Combining theory and practice, the programme uses a blended learning methodology with three online
courses and one in-person course at McGill University.
Members of Parliament having completed the programme will receive a Professional Development Certificate
from McGill University. The courses will be offered free of charge for Parliamentarians. Places are limited and will be
adjudicated on a first come first served basis, taking into account gender and regional balance. Attached to this letter,
you will find more information about the programme. If you are interested in taking part in this important initiative,
please let us know by writing to
[email protected].
Thank you for your commitment to our activities and we hope that you will be able to join us for this brand-
new initiative.
With my very best wishes,
The Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP, UK
