Dear Honourable,
It is my honour to inform you that the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF (PN) is launching a
global chapter on
Climate Finance.
I therefore write today to the PN community globally to ask for expressions
of interest in joining the Steering Committee.
•
If interested please respond to this email to express your interest, so that the Network can move quickly to
conduct online elections.
•
The Steering Committee will have an initial mandate of two years, during which they will have the opportunity
to help shape the agenda and direction of the chapter. The members of the steering committee will also have
the opportunity to elect a Co-Chair, who will serve alongside a Co-Chair nominated by the Parliamentary
Network Board.
•
I very much hope that we to give the Climate Finance Chapter its launch at COP29.
•
This chapter will play a crucial role in (a) advocating for multilateral action through the Bretton Woods
institutions to increase and improve the availability of climate finance and (b) ensure that IMF and World
Bank policy-makers are kept close to local realities of climate change and to coordinate feedback on policy
implementation and (c) create a space for sharing ideas for policy reform between parliamentarians and
World Bank/ IMF policy-makers.
The creation of this new Chapter is part of our work to reflect the evolving interests of our esteemed members.
Alongside the work we already support for Young Parliamentarians, we have already accelerated our work to
stand up global thematic chapters on
“Gender”
and
“Global Health”,
both of which will offer valuable platforms
across the PN for discussion and collective action. This is in addition to our work supporting country-based
Chapters.
Please note that all thematic chapters, including Climate Finance, must adhere to the
established guidelines
for
thematic chapters as defined by the PN, and the guidelines for which I attach to this email.
If you are interested in serving on the Steering Committee or would like further information on thematic
chapters, please contact
or
by 14 October 2024. We look forward
to your participation in this exciting new initiative.
With my very best wishes,
The Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP, UK
Chair of the Parliamentary Network
on the World Bank and IMF
