Subject: Research: Danish collaboration with a bullfight in Huéscar (Spain)
Dear Members of the Parliamentary Group of the Alternativet,
My name is Rubén Pérez, I am the coordinator of the Childhood Without Violence
campaign of the Franz Weber Foundation. Our international NGO works to enforce
the objections of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child in
relation to the participation of minors in bullfighting activities, and also to verify that
public funds are not used in these practices, mainly of a European nature.
Last October in the Spanish municipality of Huéscar, a bullfighting event allegedly
financed by the EU took place. It was promoted as a 'festival of peace' in relation to
historical events between this town and Denmark, dating back to the declaration of
war in 1809.
The local authorities went so far as to publicly state that they were inviting Danish
compatriots and diplomatic representation to this act of animal abuse.
We are writing to you with the intention of drawing up parliamentary initiatives to
clarify whether the Danish Government or its diplomatic representation in Spain
may have cooperated with this activity, and also to denounce the use of all
European citizens' money for an illegal event in practically all the Member States.
