To: Presidents of IPU Groups
Geneva, 3 October 2024
Dear Madam President,
Dear Mr. President,
On 12-14 September 2024, the IPU and the National Assembly of Armenia held the Tenth IPU Global
Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Yerevan, Armenia, entitled
Avoiding lost generations: Preserving
education and employment in all circumstances.
The Conference brought together some 144 young parliamentarians from over 52 countries, approximately
40% of whom were women. The average age of the MPs was 37 years old, and they were joined by
representatives of governments, international organizations, civil society groups, youth organizations and
academia to share knowledge and coordinate actions.
During the event, young parliamentarians pledged their commitment to preserving education and
employment opportunities in all circumstances, including in times of crisis. They emphasized the
importance of ensuring free and accessible education for all. They also called for greater investment in
digital infrastructure and the adaptation of curricula to meet the demands of future economies. Additionally,
they advocated for employment initiatives that empower young people through job programmes, micro-
credit schemes and entrepreneurship support. They highlighted the necessity of inclusive labour policies,
especially for refugees, and stressed the importance of affordable housing to foster long-term economic
stability. With a focus on leaving no one behind, the parliamentarians committed to ensuring that education
and employment services reach marginalized groups and those in vulnerable situations, delivering a more
equitable future for all.
