Response from the Danish Government to the omnibus simplification
package regarding the Delegated Regulation on the EU Taxonomy
Dear Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque,
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the public consultation on the
Delegated Regulation on the EU Taxonomy, as part of the omnibus sim-
plification package. The EU Taxonomy is a key element of the EU’s sus-
tainable finance framework and a useful transparency tool. It helps direct
investments to the economic activities most needed for the transition, in
line with the European Green Deal objectives, which Denmark fully sup-
ports.
However, regulatory and market developments call for simplification and
thereby an overall reduction of reporting requirements to strengthen Euro-
pean competitiveness, alleviate burdens on businesses, and better support
capital flows to the green transition and sustainable development.
By reducing complex regulation and requirements, we promote alignment
around the most important, standardised sustainability metrics, making it
easier to compare progress across companies. This levels the playing field,
allowing businesses genuinely committed to sustainability to distinguish
themselves through credible and consistent data. Cutting administrative
burdens and over-reporting not only incentivise accountability, but also
rewards genuine efforts.
While outside the scope of the Commission Delegated Regulation on the
EU Taxonomy, mandatory reporting under article 8 should be reconsid-
ered. This could eliminate burdens for companies while simultaneously
highlighting genuine sustainability initiatives by companies wishing to
continue reporting under a new, voluntary framework.
