THE SWEDISH PARLIAMENT
Dear Delegate of the OSCE PA,
From this week I am leaving our Assembly and will engage as Chair of the Swedish
delegation to the Interparliamentary Union. It has been a great honour to be a part
of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and serve as its President for the past two
years.
During my time in the Assembly, we have experienced one of our most fundamental
challenges
due to Russia’s
illegal war in Ukraine. I am immensely proud that the
OSCE PA has delivered during these troubling times of attacks on security and
stability in the OSCE region. We have shown the significance of our
interparliamentary cooperation.
I am also proud of the Assembly’s extensive work with election observations. I have
been a part of
over 50 of OSCE PA’s election observations. They
are an important
tool to uphold and build democracy, which is at the core of our common values. Let
them continue to be the flagship of the organisation.
As I move on to other engagements, I wish to stay in touch and continue our
important conversations. Because the OSCE’s broad concept of security,
encompassing both political and economic affairs as well as the environment and
human rights, is more important as ever.
I am confident you as a delegate of the OSCE PA will continue your excellent work
to defend the European Security order and to uphold the principles of the Helsinki
Final Act and the Paris Charter. I will always view the OSCE-PA as an immensely
important arena for interparliamentary cooperation.
Thank you, yet again, and I hope to see you all in other settings in the future.
Yours sincerely,
Margareta Cederfelt
