Subject: Invitation to the DROI interparliamentary committee meeting dedicated to the
High Level Conference on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights on 29 November 2023
Dear Chair,
I am pleased to inform you that the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights
(DROI) will organise an interparliamentary committee meeting with national parliaments on
29 November 2023 from 10:15 to 17:30. On this occasion, the meeting will be dedicated to a
High Level Conference celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone in the history of human rights and
remains a relevant compass that guides us in addressing the challenges we face today. The
conference will be therefore a unique opportunity for representatives from the European
Union, national parliaments, international and regional human rights organisations and
mechanisms to bridge divides and stand up for human rights. While the first emphasis must
be on ensuring that the universality of human rights is respected and implemented globally,
the conference will bring together a wide range of human rights stakeholders to share their
perspectives and approaches in order to respond to the current global challenges.
The DROI Subcommittee would like to invite members of national parliaments, in particular
members of committees responsible for external relations, to this meeting to share their views.
The conference will be held in person in the European Parliament in Brussels. Further practical
details regarding the meeting will be forwarded, in due course, to the department in your
parliament that is responsible for relations with the European Parliament.
