Dear Chair,
The Committee on Culture and Education at the European Parliament wishes to bring together
European and national parliamentarians to an Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting (ICM) on:
European Citizenship Education
The aim of this ICM is to foster the debate and share experiences at national and European level, but
also explore future actions regarding this topic highly important to our democratic societies.
To this end, the Committee on Culture and Education invites Members of national parliaments to
attend the ICM scheduled to take place
at the European Parliament in Brussels
on:
Monday, 27 November 2023, from 14:00 to 20:00,
and
Tuesday, 28 November 2023, from 9:00 to 12:30
The four key thematic areas of the ICM are as follows:
1) European Citizenship Education: best practices (national and European context)
2) The importance of European Citizenship Education for young people
3) Role of European Parliament in the implementation of European Citizenship Education actions
4) Importance of European Citizenship in view of the 2024 European Parliament elections
We are very pleased to invite up to four Members of the relevant committee(s) of each national
parliament – two from each chamber in the case of bicameral parliaments – to attend this event.
Should you and/or your Members be unable to attend, we would welcome your written contributions,
which will be distributed to the participants.
In attachment, you will find a copy of the draft programme of the meeting. A final copy will be
circulated closer to the date of the meeting.
