STORTINGET
Dear President of Parliament,
Oslo, 18 June 2024
I take great pleasure in welcoming representatives from your Parliament to the annual
conference of the European Parliamentary Technology Assessment network (EPTA) on 21
October 2024. The conference is organised by the Norwegian Board of Technology, which
holds the presidency of EPTA in 2024.
It
is our pleasure to host the EPTA conference in the Storting here in Oslo. The conference
will bring together Members of Parliament and officials from across Europe and beyond to
discuss
Artificial Intelligence and Democracy.
Key topics will be:
• AI in election campaigns and public discourse,
• Use of AI in parliamentary work and public sector services,
• Digital sovereignty and democratic control of this powerful technology.
The EPTA network will jointly produce a new report on AI and democracy with an overview
of developments in different countries and regions to be launched and presented at the
conference. There will be ample opportunities to share experiences and discuss the way
forward with fellow MPs and experts and participate in different panels.
EPT A is the network of organisations set up to provide advice for their respective Parliaments
on the possible social, economic and environmental implications of developments in science
and technology. A list of invited Parliaments is enclosed. Further information on the network
and its members is given on the EPTA website
www.eplanetwork.org.

I look forward to welcoming your delegates in October.
Yours sincerely,
Masud Gharahkhani
