New non-fluorinated surfactant technology to eliminate the use of PFAS as polymerization aid in
the manufacturing of PTFE Fine powders and PFA.
Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited (GFL) is pleased to announce another successful development in the
use of non-fluorinated polymerization aid (NFPA) technology to manufacture following
fluoropolymers:

PTFE Fine Powders
PFA
As compared to the PFAS chemicals in use for this purpose, the specific non-fluorinated polymerization
aid/s used by GFL are not Persistent, not Bio-accumulative, not Toxic and not Mobile, and are EU
REACH registered.
GFL plans to start commercial production of the above-mentioned product lines using non-fluorinated
polymerization aid (NFPA) technology from 2023. Further, it plans to make a complete transition to
the use of non-fluorinated polymerization aids in this segment in a phased manner. The sampling
process for re-qualifications will commence soon.
With this development, GFL will be able to produce its entire fluoropolymer portfolio (PTFE - all types,
PVDF, FKM, PFA) without the use of fluorinated polymerization aids, which are PFAS chemicals and
hence will be achieving the objective of Responsible Manufacturing of fluoropolymers.
