Parliamentarians in the Field
Field Visit to Morocco
4 to 8 June 2023
About the Parliamentarians in the Field program
Since 2001, the Parliamentarians in the Field program has given Members of Parliament (MPs) unique
access to World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) country offices,
the institutions’
development programs, and key development
partners (including the host country’s parliament).
During visits, delegates are briefed by World Bank Group and IMF country representatives on the
macroeconomic context and their organizations’ in-country
activities to gain a holistic understanding of
the country’s development trajectory. Participants
then visit programs and projects while engaging with
local staff and beneficiaries to experience the impact of interventions first-hand. Delegates also have the
opportunity to meet with key development stakeholders, notably host-country parliamentarians to discuss
the country’s development priorities,
as well as ministries, civil society organizations, the private sector,
and donors.
At the conclusion of a visit, the delegation shares its observations and recommendations on the host
country’s development
program in a comprehensive report, which is published on the Parliamentary
Network’s website.
The Parliamentarians in the Field program is organized by the Parliamentary Network in close cooperation
with the World Bank Group and the IMF. The program represents an opportunity for donor country
parliamentarians to see development cooperation in practice. Borrowing-country MPs can use field visits
as benchmarking exercises and opportunities to exchange views and experiences.
Field Visit Proposal
Main topics: Climate change, water, and education.
Meetings with key stakeholders: World Bank Group (including IBRD and IFC) and IMF representatives,
Moroccan Parliament, Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), project beneficiaries, CSOs, private sector,
and the donor community.
The field visit will allow participating
MPs to gain a solid understanding of Morocco’s development
priorities, exchange with key stakeholders and actors, and share knowledge about their own countries’
development experiences. The engagements of the World Bank Group and the IMF in Morocco aim to
support its economic growth and development in recent decades. During the four days of the visit, MPs
will learn about the country and the region’s development challenges and how the World Bank, IFC, and
IMF are helping to overcome them.

The visit will also be an important step in the preparation of the 2023 World Bank Group - IMF Annual
Meetings in Marrakech, where the Parliamentary Network will hold a Global Parliamentary Forum (MENA
Regional Chapter and Chairs from National Chapters of the PN across Africa). In this context, the delegation
will learn about Morocco’s priorities for the Annual Meetings, which will define the themes of the PN event
in October 2023.

About the Parliamentary Network
The Parliamentary Network on the World Bank Group & International Monetary Fund (IMF)
or the
Parliamentary Network (PN)
provides a platform for parliamentarians from World Bank and IMF member
countries to advocate for increased accountability and transparency in International Financial Institutions
and multilateral development financing. Founded in 2000, the PN seeks to engage lawmakers from around
the globe in the common mission of addressing good governance and poverty challenges in both their
home countries and abroad. Directed by a Board elected by their peers, the PN is an independent non-
governmental organization with a secretariat in Paris. The organization is open to all elected
parliamentarians from World Bank and IMF member states who hold a current mandate. PN members
represent themselves and their constituents, and not their countries, parliaments, or governments.
