Emne: Regulations making cross border trains difficult
Dear Dr. Michael Peterson (DB Board Member for Long Distance Passenger Transport) and Mr. Flemming
Jensen (Administrerende direktør for DSB),
I read with dismay about the stranded passengers in Padborg through Mr. Stanislaw Aseyev, who had been
traveling on the train and was left stranded in Padborg.
Following his reporting, I read in the Danish tabloid Ekstrabladet today, please find the article attached for
your convenience, that was one of the possible reasons for the chaos was that German and Danish labour
regulations make it impossible for staff to work cross border.
What is being done to ensure that staff can work on both sides of the border ideally in every day service,
but at least in order for staff to continue with the train past the border in emergency situations?
Furthermore I had the pleasure of taking the IC 1193 train from Copenhagen yesterday morning. It was
train carriages from Deutsche Bahn. This meant that the personnel on the train had to lock half of the train
doors before every station we stopped at and unlock them after the train had left the station. Because
Danish security regulation requires this to avoid people by mistake descending from the wrong side of the
train and the unlocking in order to be able to leave the train in emergency situations between stations.
What is being done to ensure both high levels of safety but also that train carriages can be used cross
border?
Looking forward to your replies.
Best regards,
Karen Melchior
