CROATIAN PARLIAMENT
Agriculture Committee
Class: 130-03/23-01/41
Ref.no: 6521-16-23-02
Zagreb, 11 July 2023
Honourable Committee Chairwomen and Chairmen,
Dear colleagues,
Marking the tenth anniversary of the membership of the Republic of Croatia in the European
Union, and building on the experiences and challenges of Croatian and European farmers in
relation to the Common Agricultural Policy, the Agricultural Committee of the Croatian
Parliament will organize
an Inter-Parliamentary Conference on the “Contribution of
national parliaments to improving the Common Agricultural Policy”, which will be held
on 25 September 2023 in the Croatian Parliament (Zagreb, Croatia).
The topics of the Conference would include the new rules of the Common Agricultural Policy
(CAP) that the EU Member States have incorporated in their National Strategic Plans for the
CAP, experiences and practices of the implementation of the CAP instruments and the CAP’s
various influences on the competitiveness of agriculture in the EU Member States, on the
preservation of rural areas, on generational renewal and on sustainable use of natural resources.
The Conference would also address the topic of joint initiatives developed by national
parliaments for improving the CAP instruments. One such initiative is the debate on the
Declaration on GMO-free Alps-Adriatic-Danube Region, adopted by the Croatian Parliament
in March 2022. The Republic of Croatia called on the other Member States to take decisions at
the national level to support the implementation of the activities conducive to maintaining the
Alps-Adria-Danube region GMO-free, all for the sake of preserving biodiversity and the
environmentally responsible and ecological cultivation of agricultural products, constituting the
heritage of this part of Central Europe.
Therefore, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to the Inter-Parliamentary Conference, at
which we plan to gather the representatives of the agricultural committees of the parliaments of
the EU Member States and of the parliaments from the Alps-Adriatic-Danube region countries
that are not EU members, representatives of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural
Development of the European Parliament, representatives of the European Commission,
representatives of COPA COGECA, CEJA, IFOAM, sectoral associations and chambers.
I am kindly asking you to save the date and I am attaching herewith the draft programme of the
Conference and useful information.
Sincerely,
COMMITTEE CHAIRWOMAN
Marijana Petir
