August 17, 2022
Dear Member,
On behalf of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank & IMF, it is my pleasure to invite you
to the
2022 Global Parliamentary Meeting on 6, 10 and 11 October 2022,
jointly organised with
the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund. The theme of this year’s conference
is
“Innovative Solutions for Turbulent Times.”
In July 2022, heads of agencies issued a statement calling for urgent action to address the global
food security crisis. They stressed that the disruption in supply chains caused by the COVID-19
pandemic, combined with the war in Ukraine, have severely impacted the intertwining food, fuel,
and fertilizer markets. A resulting spike in food prices has led many countries to implement export
restrictions, further exacerbating the food crisis for the most vulnerable. The statement calls for
prioritizing immediate support to the vulnerable, facilitating trade and international food supply,
increasing food production, and investing in climate-resilient agriculture. In this context,
parliaments play a key role in the immediate and long-term recovery efforts by enacting laws and
overseeing government policy.
The meeting will be an occasion for parliamentarians to share experiences and best practices with
senior management and experts from the World Bank Group & IMF on how to address the food
crisis from the perspective of supply chain disruptions and the urgent need for climate financing
amidst limited fiscal space, it will also provide an update on human capital progress in the Sub-
Saharan Africa region.
The connection details will follow. The International Secretariat of the Parliamentary Network will
prepare the event programme and send it to you in due time. Sessions will be held in English,
French and Spanish. I invite you to confirm your attendance by clicking on this link
