The core mission of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) is to
promote scientific research in space on an international level. Emphasis is
placed on the exchange of results, information and opinions, and providing a
forum, open to all scientists, for the discussion of problems that may affect
scientific space research. In this way, a community of scientists is assembled,
ensuring that a vibrant international space research effort can be conducted
without impediment from geopolitical tensions or differences.
This community aims to share the results of their research, building bonds and
encouraging collaborations with colleagues around the world, and the biggest
date in their calendar is the COSPAR scientific assembly, held every two
years. The 44th COSPAR Scientific Assembly will be held in Athens, Greece,
16-24 July 2022 and so far 140+ sessions are lined up, showcasing new
findings from COSPAR’s eight Scientific Commissions, covering the following
fields:
- Space Studies of the Earth's Surface, Meteorology, and Climate;
- Space Studies of the Earth-Moon System, Planets, and Small Bodies of the
Solar System;
- Space Studies of the Upper Atmospheres of the Earth and Planets Including
Reference Atmosphere;
- Space Plasmas in the Solar System, Including Planetary Magnetospheres,
and the heliosphere;
