Invitation to the Parliamentary Dialogue Series: Taxation-Inflation Nexus
15 December 2021 from 9:00-9:45 AM EST (Washington) | 2:00- 2:45 PM GMT (London) | 3:00-3:45 PM CET (Paris)
Dear Honourable,
On behalf of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank & IMF, it is my pleasure to invite you to the first in
the quarterly Parliamentary Dialogue Series, jointly organised with the World Bank Group, on the Taxation-Inflation
Nexus.
Taxes have a key role to play in making growth sustainable and equitable, particularly in the context of the
COVID-19 and climate crises. Though rich nations have agreed on minimum global tax levels for the first time,
implementation plans have yet to emerge. Many countries will need to rebuild their fiscal capacities when the
politics of carbon pricing is fraught, especially at a time of rising global inflation. Well-driven fiscal policies will be
essential to help countries face debt pressures, control inflation, and finance greener economic activity.
This event will bring World Bank experts together with parliamentarians to discuss these issues, helping shed
light on the road-maps parliamentarians everywhere could craft for the years ahead. Policymakers will need to
nurture the economic recovery with fiscal measures while keeping a close eye on safeguarding financial stability.
Policies should take the long view, notably by investing in green infrastructure to bolster growth along a green,
resilient, and inclusive path.
