To the Chairperson(s) of the Committee(s) concerned
Dear Colleague,
For several years now, the European Parliament has been observing the International day for the
Elimination of Violence against Women of 25 November with a special event bringing together
Members of the EP and Members of the national Parliaments from across the European Union,
in order to raise awareness of this important issue.
On this occasion,
the European Parliament’s Committee on Women's Rights and Gender
Equality (FEMM) would like to invite Members of the national Parliaments of the EU to attend
an interparliamentary committee meeting on the theme:
“Eliminating
violence against women”
The meeting will consist of four panels which will explore the current state of affairs in policy
and practice in focused areas of gender-based violence. The first panel will be organised jointly
with the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) and will deal with sexual violence as a
weapon of war. The second panel will deal with preventing and combating violence against
women and girls with disabilities. The third and fourth panels will be organised jointly with the
Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and deal with cyberviolence
and with the Istanbul Convention respectively.
The inteparliamentary committee meeting will set a good platform for the Committee and the
European Parliament, together with the national Parliaments, to mark this day and provide a
global forum for an exchange of experiences and best practices in eliminating violence against
women in the EU and at global scale.
We are therefore very pleased to invite up to four Members of the corresponding committee(s)
of each national Parliament (two from each chamber in the case of bi-cameral Parliaments) to
attend this event on
Tuesday, 30 November 2021, from 9.00 to 12.00, from 13:45 to 15:45
and from 16:45 - 18:45 online.
Practical details regarding the meeting will be forwarded in due course to your Parliament's
representatives responsible for relations with the European Parliament.
We sincerely hope that you will be able to accept our invitation and we are looking forward to
welcoming you to the European Parliament on 30 November 2021.
