RESOLUTION
Chamber of Deputies

to commemorate the genocide of the Ukrainian nation during the famine organized by the
Stalinist regime of the Soviet Union (1932-1933)
the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic,
aware of the democratic principles on which the Czech Republic is founded, respect
for human rights and fundamental rights, and not forgetting the period of unfreedom and the
period of communist totalitarian power which the Czech nation went through, on the occasion
of the 90th anniversary of the famine in Ukraine in 1932-1933,
–
having regard to the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms,
–
having regard to the European Convention for the Protection of Human
Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,
–
having regard to the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of
the Crime of Genocide,
–
having regard to the Joint Statement issued at the 58th Plenary Session of the
UN General Assembly on the 70th anniversary of the famine in Ukraine, which was
supported by 63 States, including all the (then) 25 EU Member States,
–
having regard to the Ukrainian Law on the "Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-
1933", adopted on 28 November 2006,
–
having regard to the Resolution 535 of the Chamber of Deputies of the
Parliament of the Czech Republic of 30 November 2007, adopted on the occasion of
the 75th anniversary of the 1932-1933 famine in Ukraine,
A. whereas respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms are
fundamental principles on which the Czech Republic and the European Union are
founded,
B. whereas the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime
of Genocide criminalizes a number of acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole
or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group; killing members of such a
group; causing grievous bodily harm or mental harm to members of such a group;
