Dear colleagues,
For your kind information, please find attached a resolution adopted by the Belgian Senate at its plenary
session on Friday 25 February last and by which it condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In the resolution, the Senate:

- strongly condemns the Russian recognition of the so-called 'people's republics' of Luhansk and
Donetsk;
- supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine;
- urges all parties involved in the conflict to renew their efforts to find a peaceful solution through
diplomatic talks;
- stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine;
and calls on the governments of Belgium to:
- take initiatives in the framework of humanitarian aid to assist the people of Ukraine and to
temporarily accommodate Ukrainian war refugees;
- urge the EU to respond effectively and rapidly with the strongest possible diplomatic, economic
and financial sanctions including the freezing of Russian assets, introducing export bans and the
disconnection of Russian banks from the international Swift payment system;
- plead with the EU for additional sanctions against Belarus and President Lukashenko;
- take all possible measures against Russian cyber-attacks and fake news;
- to respond, in the context of our NATO commitments, to any requests for military assistance.
Best regards,
