Parliamentary Forum at the United Nations
High Level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF)
Geneva, 4 June 2021
Office of the
Secretary General
Dear Madam President,
Dear Mr. President,
This
year’s Parliamentary Forum at the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) will take
place virtually on
Monday, 12 July, from 9 am to 11 am (New York Time).
The HLPF is the United Nation’s main hub to track the implementation of the landmark
Sustainable Development Goals -
the world’s most ambitious agenda to overcome
poverty and inequality while preserving the sustainability of life on our finite planet.
The HLPF’s rich programme of panel discussions and side events can be found at
https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/hlpf/2021
The need to build back better is as evident today as it was at the beginning of the
COVID-19 pandemic. Other IPU meetings this year have focused on specific policy
issues (health, gender equality, food systems, etc). This
year’s Parliamentary Forum
entitled
Message from the pandemic: Bring “government” back
will
look at the “big
picture”, namely, the role of government versus that of the marketplace in the drive
toward the SDGs. The Forum will provide a critical perspective on the role of public
policy and of the public sector in managing the economy and in responding
to people’s
needs.
The Parliamentary Forum is open to all interested parliamentarians able to join the
discussion online. I invite you to appoint a parliamentary delegation with due
consideration to gender and political balance. Each member of the delegation should
be registered with a personal email address at
https://form.jotform.com/211393642879163
to ensure s/he receives the connection
details to the meeting, and other documents, which will be made available on
Thursday, 8 July.
I look forward to your parliament’s contribution to this important event.
Yours sincerely,
Martin Chungong
Secretary General
