Parliamentary Leadership for the 2030 Agenda Webinar Series
COVID-19 response: Leaving No One Behind
February 15, 2021 | 8:00 am to 10:00 am EST | 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm CET |
Other Time Zones
The COVID-19 pandemic poses an unprecedented crisis with wide-ranging and profound impacts for our
societies. Inequalities and vulnerabilities that were already afflicting many in the world even before the
pandemic have only been exacerbated. Even though governments are moving forward with vaccination
campaigns, the healthcare systems of several countries are under considerable strain as they endure
through another wave of cases.
As such, governments and policymakers need solutions that can address this ongoing challenge. An
effective response to the pandemic will not only require the containment of current outbreaks and the
equitable distribution of vaccines. Its far-reaching economic and social consequences have also
highlighted the need to adopt measures that are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) and that leave no one behind.
In this context, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Parliamentarians for the
Global Goals are convening a high-level dialogue for parliamentarians on the COVID-19 response. In
order to build back better, the active engagement of parliamentarians is crucial due to their key role in
voicing the needs and demands of their constituents, while approving laws and deciding on budgets that
prioritize an inclusive and sustainable recovery. The event will be discussion-focused, featuring
interactions between participating parliamentarians and experts with the aim of providing a common
platform for sharing and discussing policies and practices that can be implemented to overcome the
COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the first in the "Parliamentary
Leadership for the 2030 Agenda" webinar series
to support
parliamentarians with scientific evidence for decision making. This series is meant to serve as a forum
for peer-to-peer learning, mutual inspiration and exchange of best practices that can galvanize more
political action on SDGs.
