Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Portuguese Parliament, it is my pleasure to invite you to participate in the
Interparliamentary Conference on Common Foreign and Security Policy / Common Security
and Defence Policy (CFSP / CSDP) that will take place on the 3th and 4th of March, as part of
the Parliamentary Dimension Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The restrictions imposed by the pandemic on travel and the presence of many people in the
same space forced us to opt for an exclusively virtual event, in which all participation will take
place by videoconference.
The subjects under discussion during the Conference will be cooperation between the European
Union and the Atlantic Alliance in the context of European Defence and the Union's relations
with the African continent. An exchange of views with the High Representative of the Union
for Foreign Policy and Security will also occur.
It is my firm conviction that your participation in this Conference will contribute significantly
to the discussion of these topical matters and to the quality of the debate, fostering the link
between representatives of the Parliaments of Member States and the European Parliament at
a time when the health crisis forces us to maintain physical distance.
You will find attached the draft programme for the Conference. The registration form and
additional information will be sent to the delegations in due course.
Yours sincerely,
The Chair of the National Defence Committee of the Assembleia da República
Marcos Perestrello
