Honourable Michael Aastrup Jensen,
On behalf of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank & IMF and the International Monetary
Fund, I invite you to a
Virtual Parliamentary Meeting on the IMF responses to COVID-19 and policies for an
inclusive and green recovery,
on
16 June 2020 at 9:00 Washington D.C.| 13:00 GMT|15:00 Paris.
The meeting will convene legislators from around the world for a discussion with IMF Deputy Managing
Director Antoinette Sayeh and experts to exchange views on the response to the current coronavirus outbreak,
emergency finance, and policies to lay the foundations for a green and inclusive recovery.
At this critical time, parliaments have been at the forefront of this unprecedent global challenge, being
called upon to pass exceptional laws, supplementary budgets and grant special powers to their governments
to cope with this major disaster, while considering how to deal with the economic security of the country
during and after the pandemic.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
and what additional actions parliamentarians can take to make their economies more resilient. Furthermore,
participants will look at strategies for legislators to protect lives, and livelihoods and prepare for a green and
inclusive recovery by exchanging their insights and experiences on economic policies, unemployment and
rising inequalities.
