COMMON STATEMENT BY THE MINISTERS OF THE ROAD ALLIANCE
We, Transport Ministers of Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg,
Norway, Sweden and Switzerland, and Belgium and the Netherlands as observers, would like to share
our appreciation of the progress made by the Finnish Presidency of the Council, the European
Parliament and the European Commission, in the first two rounds of the trilogue on Mobility Package
1.
This step forward was made possible thanks to the tremendous work done by the Council, the
European Parliament and the European Commission. This has laid down the foundations for a
constructive dialogue between the institutions for the final stages of the negotiations.
Taking into account the progress made, we are confident that all the parties will continue working
together in the same positive spirit to conclude successfully the negotiations and reach a balanced
agreement.
We strongly encourage the Finnish Presidency, the European Parliament and the European
Commission to reach a final compromise as soon as possible, provided that the founding objectives
of the Package concerning the balance of road transport market, driver protection and traffic safety
are preserved, in order to secure better regulations for the road transport sector. This agreement has
been expected for more than two years.
We remain committed to establishing enforceable rules to safeguard social rights, enhance road
safety, and ensure a well-functioning, fair and secure internal market.
