TRU, Alm.del - 2019-20 - Bilag 256: Henvendelse af 3/3-20 vedrørende overdækning af motorveje, fra Marina R. Kasimova, Bagsværd
Proposal
Building a cover for motorways/highways in highly-populated areas is a necessity for
people’s
wellbeing and for the climate. Covering the overpopulated roads will essentially transform them into
over-ground tunnels. This should be done to create extra area for installation of climate-friendly
energy sources, to reduce CO
2
and particle emission.
Tunnel equipment
Within the tunnels, particle-capturing technology should be installed. The top of the tunnels should
be covered by solar cells to supply electricity for: a) illumination of the road within; b) operation of
ventilators driving particle filters (see below).
Benefits for people and environment
Large roads generate huge amounts of particles from rubber, burning diesel, and so on. Often these
are da gerous for people’s health si ulta eously o tri uti g to the pollutio of e viro e t.
When the roads are covered, these particles will not simply escape into the surrounding air, but can
be captured, filtered out and/or destroyed.
Improvement of living standards for people living around major transport flow-channels by
reduction of noise and reduction of particle pollution generated by traffic.
Economic benefits
In the winter months no protection of the roads from snow/ice by salt or sand will be necessary,
therefore, no salt is spilling in the surrounding areas. In addition, clearing the roads after storms will
not be necessary.
Protection from weather will benefit the road safety: no traffic collapse on the rainy days, no
flooding on the roads.
The cover will reduce fluctuations of temperature during cloudy, freezing and sunny days, thus
reducing degradation of the asphalt and the need for its repair.
Extra equipment can be installed in the future for capturing CO
2
and transforming it into something
else (dry ice or methane, for example).
