Children with disabilities
1. The Act on Support for Persons with Disabilities requires municipalities to prepare action plans no
later than six months before a child with disabilities, who receives support under the Act, starts his/her
primary school education and again at least 12 months before he/she completes primary school
education.
2. The
Børnetalsmand
visits the country's municipalities and publishes travel reports on the compliance
with the UNCRC. The specific challenges of children with disabilities have also been commented upon in
the
Børnetalsmand’s
travel reports.
Accessibility
3. Examples of stipulations in the building regulations regarding accessibility: level access to buildings,
parking spaces for persons with disabilities, and handicap toilets in public buildings.
4. If the municipality becomes aware that a building project is unlawful, the municipality is obliged to
attempt to make the building project lawful. The owner of the building is responsible for the building
being lawful.
5. Additional information regarding the revised set of building regulations: the Government is also
planning to introduce a requirement for accessible signage and information in buildings.
6. Example on how the needs of persons with disabilities are taking into account: prior to planning an
upcoming college building project, there was a dialogue with the educational institutions in the towns
concerned, to identify the need for accessible college housing.

In 2018, the Government conducted a course on universal building design and accessibility standards
for employees of the municipal building authorities. The aim is to continue to organize courses in
universal building design for both new employees and professionals.
Equal recognition before the law
8. There are 29 guardianships registered in Greenland. 4 were issued in 2019, 8 were issued in 2018, 4
were issued in 2017, 2 were issued in 2015, 3 were issued in 2014 and 8 were issued between 1969 and
2008.
Education
9. An experimental scheme aiming to uncover the level of demand as well as approve and create
specially designed courses for students with special needs, started in 2017. The target group is anyone
with various degrees of autism spectrum disorder and ADHD diagnoses, considered capable of
completing high school, and who meets the general admission requirements, yet needs special educational
support and thus would not be able to participate in the education on ordinary terms.
Habilitation and rehabilitation
10. If necessary, the doctor refers the patient to the therapy department. The therapy department consist of
both occupational therapists, physiotherapist and a dietitian. An assessment of the patient’s functionality
is conducted, including a decision on whether there is a need for rehabilitation within the health care
system or habilitation under the auspices of the municipality.

Participation in political and public life
11. Voters who are unable to move into the polling place due to lack of mobility or similar reasons will be
able to cast their vote immediately outside the polling place. Visually impaired or blind voters can get
help reading the list of candidates and get help to vote.
12. In cases where the citizen cannot visit the polling place within the stipulated deadlines, the
municipality may be able to assist, so that the citizen can cast an absentee vote instead.
13. The municipalities also offer persons with different types of disabilities transportation to and from the
polling places.
