Re: Postponement of the Spring Session in Kyiv
Dear members,
We hope this finds you well and healthy in these unprecedent times.
We want to provide you with an update on the NATO PA Spring Session, originally scheduled
to take place in Kyiv, Ukraine on 22-25 May, which was postponed on 2 April (see circular
letter 076 CIR 20 E) .
We have been working with our Ukrainian hosts to find an alternative timeframe in the early
autumn, before our Annual Session in Athens, Greece, which is planned on 20-23 November.
However, in light of the unpredictable evolution of the coronavirus pandemic, we and our
Ukrainian hosts feel that a Session in Kyiv cannot take place in 2020. Ukraine remains ready
and eager to host an Assembly Session in the near future.
This means, however, that the Assembly as a whole will not meet until the Annual Session in
Athens. We are now revisiting plans for alternative engagements of the Standing Committee
and Committees accordingly. We will get back to you shortly.
Once again, we would like to underline that our aim and hope is to ensure that the Assembly’s
delegations can continue to exchange in the coming months on the broad range of challenges
currently facing our nations
–
first among which the coronavirus crisis
– as well as on NATO’s
contribution to addressing these. Rest assured that we are fully mobilised towards this
objective. Thank you for your understanding.
Please do not hesitate to contact Ruxandra or myself should you have any questions.
Best wishes, and stay healthy,
Attila Mesterhazy
Ruxandra Popa
