THE SECRETARY GENERAL
LA SECRÉTAIRE GÉNÉRALE
010 CIR 20 E
14 January 2020
TO SECRETARIES OF DELEGATION FOR DISTRIBUTION TO ALL MEMBERS
Dear colleagues,
First, let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2020. As I take up my new
position, I very much look forward to continuing to ensure that our Secretariat provides you and your
members with the highest standards of service and that,
together, we maintain the “family spirit” which
makes our organisation distinct from others.
Several other changes in responsibilities are occurring within our Secretariat at the beginning of this
year which I would like to inform you about.
Henrik Bliddal, formerly the Director of the Science and Technology Committee (STC), has already
assumed his new role as Deputy Secretary General at the beginning of January following his
appointment at the Annual Session in London last October.
Whenever positions within the Secretariat open up, we always inquire internally whether any members
of staff would like to take up new challenges. As a result, Steffen Sachs (until now Director of the Political
Committee (PC)) has expressed keen interest in taking up the position of Director of the STC. In turn,
Andrius Avizius (until now Director of the Civil Dimension of Security Committee) was equally motivated
to take over the position of PC Director. With their extensive experience and demonstrated interest in
the work of their new Committees, they will undoubtedly rise to the challenge, and continue their
excellent work supporting you and your members.
Steffen and Andrius take on their new roles as from now. As the new Director of the Civil Dimension of
Security (CDS) Committee will only start at the end of February (exact date to be confirmed), Andrius
will, however, continue to be involved with the work of the CDS until then.
In this matter, it is my great pleasure to announce that Mr Nathan Grison will soon be joining our team
as the new CDS Director. Nathan holds dual French and British nationality and comes to us with solid
and directly relevant professional experience at several international organisations including the OSCE,
OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, International Atomic Energy Agency and NATO. He is also one of our
former Research Assistants and, thus, is already familiar with many aspects of our work. Having already
had the opportunity to work with him in the past, I have no doubt that he will be an outstanding addition
to the International Secretariat.
To place these changes into context, the updated organisation chart is attached. Please do not hesitate
to contact us should you have any questions.
Once again, very best wishes to all of you for this New Year,
Ruxandra Popa
