Successful first Antarctic Parliamentarians Assembly
Dear all
The inaugural Antarctic Parliamentarians Assembly took place in London this week and it was an
incredibly successful first event.
19 parliamentary delegates from 13 countries reached a consensus on an extensive conference
statement (see attached). Some countries that were unable to send parliamentarians were
represented on the day by Embassy delegations, which resulted in a total of 18 signatories to the
Antarctic Treaty taking part in the discussions.
Unfortunately you were unable to send delegations to the conference this time, but we hope that you
will help to put a delegation together for the next Assembly in the Southern Hemisphere (Australia
or New Zealand) in 2021.
Please have a good look through the website to read more about the conference, the sessions,
speakers and to view the session slides (some are online already, more to
follow),
https://www.antarcticparliamentarians.com/
I have attached a press release about the conference, as well as a scanned copy of the final
conference statement, and the conference photograph. High resolution versions of the photographs,
as well as the conference statement and press release are also available to download from this
page:

I hope that you can help to publicise the outcomes of this fantastic inaugural event, and please do
keep in touch about participation in the next Assembly.
Best wishes,
Sophie
