Global Summit of Parliamentarians during the IGF in Berlin, Germany,
from 25 to 29 November 2019
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the host of this year’s Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the German Federal
Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, I would like to cordially invite you to join us at the
upcoming IGF, taking place from 25 to 29 November 2019 in Berlin. During the IGF
parliamentarians from across the world will be meeting to discuss various pressing issues
around the Internet under the overarching theme: One World. One Net. One Vision.
The IGF will start on Day 0, Monday, 25 November, with a special session for parliamentarians
focusing on the “Parliamentary perspectives and opportunities for action”. Throughout the
entire week a dedicated programme is organized including a meeting with Peter Altmaier, the
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. On Thursday, 28 November, a dedicated
workshop is held focusing on the security of the Internet through the use of standards,
including potential roles politicians could have in developing such standards. On Friday, 29
November, all parliamentarians will convene in a summit with the aim to send a strong and
united message from the IGF.
You will have an excellent opportunity to meet with colleagues, but also participants from the
industry, the technical community, academia, policy makers and civil society. At the IGF you
can exchange respective views, bring in your perspective on urgent topics in your country,
identify opportunities and challenges and try to find common grounds.
In order to make your participation most beneficial for you, we would like to know which
digital topic is on the top of your agenda, e.g. access, security, e-health, etc., in order to
connect you with organizers and speakers of related panels at the IGF. Your perspective as a
law and policy maker will bring in a lot of value to the debate.
