Re: "The Deal of the Century" and the Conference in Bahrain
Mrs. Pia Kjærsgaard
Speaker of the Danish Parliament
Dear Pia Kjærsgaard,
Last month, an economic conference was held in Bahrain in order to promote the United
States’
"Peace Plan". The full details of the plan were not yet published, but we already
know from clues laid out by American officials, that it will not refer to the Palestinian people
as having a full right to determine its own future. President Trump and his delegates did
not make an effort to involve the Palestinians in discussions about the plan at all, while
the so-called Israeli interests, which are in fact the interest of the Settlement project, have
been taken fully to account. Throughout his term as President, Trump has proved that the
US is not an honest broker between Israel and the Palestinians, but rather is aligned with
one side.
President Trump has used a combination of money and power, or carrots and sticks if
you will, in order to promote his deal. By offering economic incentives to the Gulf states
and Jordan, the US tried to lure the Palestinian Authority into submission to his plans.
When the Palestinians announce that they are boycotting the US plan, the latter hastened
to massively cut US aid to Palestinian aid institutions such as UNRA. These moves are
not contributing to peace.
As elected members of the Israeli Knesset, we believe that a peaceful solution to the
conflict and an end to the occupation of the Palestinian territories is of the highest interest
for both peoples. Therefore, we urge you to once more reinstate Denmark’s commitment
to a peace treaty that includes the end of the Israeli occupation and the establishment of
a sovereign Palestinian state alongside Israel, as was agreed upon by the European
