U.A.E. Embassy asked for your kind help
Dear Ms. Nina:
Hope this e-mail finds well. last week we had a meeting with Mrs. Kira Appel, Deputy Head of
the Department for Gender Equality at the ministry to discuss related issues, and ask for their
support in organizing for a conference about women. We came to know that we should
contact you regarding our wish of holding the conference at the Danish Parliament... But let
me start by introducing our selves.
U.A.E Embassy has been opened in Copenhagen since the mid of January 2017. It aims at
reinforcing the actual cooperation and strengthening the bilateral relations between the
kingdom of Denmark and the Emirates at all levels.
The ambassador is Her Excellency, Fatma Khamis Al Mazrouei, and she is keen on achieving
a lot regarding the goal of Empowering of women and Girls.
We are planning to have the conference in cooperation with Hamsa, which is a cultural
association concerned with Literature, Culture and Traditional Heritage. It is represented by
Dr. Fatema Ahbaria. Hamsa is an independent non-profit educational institution officially
registered and approved by the Danish authorities. Issues of empowering women and girls
and gender equality, especially in developing societies, are among its priorities.
U.A.E Embassy, and Hamsa Association aim at cooperating with Gender Equality Ministry
to arrange for a conference to be held in the Danish Parliament, preferably on March 2019,
where the following key issues are to be highlighted:
1. Women start getting a more important role in the Arab countries. U.A.E is a leading
example in the region Some examples are:
·
Emirati women were the first to assume the presidency of the parliament in the history
of the Arab countries. Female parliamentarians represent about 22% of the total number of
parliament members (9/40).
·
The current
cabinet consists of 8 women ministers, among them world’s youngest
minister HE Shama al-Mazroui, who is 23 years old.
·
The number of female employees in the diplomatic corps exceeded 243 last year.
·
U.A.E devotes a day to celebrate Emirati Women achievements / 28 Aug. Fatima bint
Mubarak Al Ketbi, wife of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder and
1st. president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mother of Mohammed bin Zayed bin
Sultan Al-Nahyan the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the
UAE's Armed Forces.
She is the founder of the first women’s organization in 1976, the Abu
Dhabi Society for the Awakening of Women, head of the United Arab Emirates' Women
Federation, which she founded in 1975 & President of the Motherhood and Childhood
Supreme Council
2. To what extent the western society is aware of Arab women great achievements in their
societies??
LIU, Alm.del - 2018-19 (1. samling) - Bilag 7: Henvendelse af 10/9-18 fra Embassy of the U.A.E. in Copenhagen om at afholde en konference i Folketinget om kvinder
3.
4.
Stereotyped image of Arab women as represented by Western media vs. reality.
Highlighting similarities between women despite their different cultural backgrounds
Proposed Invitees and participants in the conference would be
Maternity Foundation, Kvinderådet (Women's Council in Denmark)/ KVINFO/ Gender
equality spokesmen for Danish political parties/ professors and researchers / Embassies/
Ministries of Gender equality /culture from different countries/ Influential women- roll
models… etc.
Best Regards
