Now is the time to act on IB....
—I
Global TB Caucus
IB is the world’s biggest infectious killer. Last year it killed 1.7 million people, more
than HIV and malaria combined.
Drug-resistant IB is an urgent threat to global health security. It comprises 1/3 of ali
antimicrobial resistance.
Europe and Central Asia has the fastest growing drug-resistant IB epidemic of any
world region.
In 2015, world leaders agreed the Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 3.3 targets
the end of IB by 2030. However, at the current rate of progress, we will miss that
target by 180 years.
Political support is needed now more than ever to accelerate the fight to end IB and
save millions of lives. The Global TB Caucus exists to bring together groups of
parliamentarians from parliaments across the world to accelerate the response to
TB. It has representation from 2,500 MPs in 132 UN-recognised countries

2018— the year to end IB?
-‘l
Global TB
Caucus
The international community is waking up to the threat of the
epidemic. The UN General Assembly agreed to host a High-Level
Meeting on TB in 2018. This meeting will be the first time that
Heads of State have discussed TB.
For the meeting to be a success, as many Heads of State as
possible must commit to attend.
They must make ambitious commitments to scale up treatment
and prevention, research and develop new drugs, diagnostics
and vaccines, and for the world to properly fund TB, and agree a
mechanism to hold leaders accountable for their promises.
