Who We Are
Michael Thyge Poulsen is the CEO and Founder of Sustainable Impact. He holds a
Master’s Degree in Political Science and Bachelor’s degree in East Asia
Area Studies from Aarhus University. He is an international development
professional with over 25 years of experience in all phases of project life cycle
management from identification and design to implementation and ex-post
evaluations. This experience has been gained through work in Eastern Europe,
Middle East, Africa and Asia including Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Somalia,
South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Afghanistan. DANIDA, DFID, SIDA, EU, UN
agencies and the World Bank are some of the international development
organisations he has worked with.

Sustainable Impact’s
work focuses in particular on
governance
and
human rights
that are mutually
reinforcing, as the human rights inform the content of governance efforts.
Without governance, human rights cannot be protected and respected in a
sustainable manner. Governance, on one hand, comprises appropriate legal
frameworks and institutions as well as political, administrative mechanisms and
processes through which society is governed. Thereby constituting a conducive
and enabling environment for human rights, as it is responsible for responding
to the rights and needs of the population. Human rights, on the other hand,
provide a set of values to guide the work of governments and other political,
social and private sector actors. Human rights also provide a set of performance
standards against which these actors can be held accountable.
