UNITE is a non-profit, non-partisan, global
network of parliamentarians (current and
former legislators) from state, national and
regional Parliaments.
We are committed to eliminating HIV/AIDS,
viral hepatitis and tuberculosis as public
health threats by 2030.
36.7 million people globally
live with HIV.
Viral hepatitis is responsible for an
estimated 1.4 million deaths per year.
Over 10 million people develop
tuberculosis each year.
To achieve our goals, we commit to:
1
Actively contribute towards keeping HIV/AIDS, viral
hepatitis and tuberculosis high on the political and
media agendas
Break down the silos between HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis
and tuberculosis, thus promoting synergistic actions
towards ending these 3 interconnected epidemics
Establish yearly goals and policy recommendations
towards the elimination of HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis and
tuberculosis, in accordance with the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals | SDGs
Widen the scope beyond health towards a development
agenda that embraces the roles of other sectors - such
as environmental and social - in the elimination of these
epidemics
Ensure the active participation of our network in
international conferences, debates and decision processes
Push for evidence-based policy reform focused on
health outcomes, including quality of life
These epidemics impact the lives of tens of
millions of people and represent major
international public health challenges.
Moreover, these conditions are promoters and
consequences of inequalities, discrimination
and social injustices.
