PROMOTION OF FREEDOM OF RELIGION OR BELIEF

Freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) is an increasingly hot topic in foreign policy, and many governments
have launched different initiatives to promote FoRB. In Denmark, the current government has recently
taken steps to strengthen efforts in this area, including the establishment of a unit in the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, increased support and earmarked funds to civil society organisations working with FoRB,
and funding of a human rights advisor to the UN Special Rapporteur on FoRB. In our future work with FoRB,
what can Denmark learn from the international experiences?
This morning meeting is an opportunity to meet with the UN Special Rapporteur on FoRB, Mr. Ahmed
Shaheed, and discuss approaches to the promotion of freedom of religion or belief.
