BREAKING THE SILENCE
Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran soldiers who have served in the West Bank
and Gaza since the start of the Second Intifada in 2000. Through collecting and publishing
testimonies from soldiers and conducting tours and other public events, Breaking the Silence is
working to generate a discussion in Israeli society about the occupation and human rights in the
occupied Palestinian territories.
Breaking the Silence has acquired a special standing in the Israeli public and in the media, as it is
unique in giving voice to the experience of soldiers. To date, the organization has collected
testimonies from over 1,100 soldiers who represent all strata of Israeli society and cover nearly
