The indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) as it name connotes are Biafrans resident in Biafraland
and in the Diaspora with the sole objective of exploring and utilizing every available legal
framework and universally guaranteed rules to assert its right to self- determination and to
determining its own economic, political, legal and cultural systems in a sovereign and independent
Biafran nation. The Directorate of State (DoS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra is the institution
responsible for overseeing the day to day affairs of the IPOB worldwide.
Fifty (50) years on, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of “Onyendu Mazi
Nnamdi Kanu”, are on this date the
30th
of May 2017 commemorating the
50th
year centenary of
the Biafran Genocide. The horrors of 1966-1970 are once again very contemporary in the
memories of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). During the period in question, hundreds of
thousands of Biafrans were first slaughtered through a well planned, well coordinated and well
executed pogrom of Biafran people living outside of Biafraland and resident in others parts of
Nigeria. Then millions were murdered by the barrel of the gun while millions more especially
women and children were starved systematically to death in a most brutal form of genocide
ifl
modern African history. As the dust of the terror unleashed upon the IPOB settled, over five million
Biafran lives, HUMAN lives were wasted while Biafran towns, villages and cities were devastated
and in complete ruin. What was the crime of the Indigenous People of Biafra, why would a people
be exterminated in such a mass and with such viciousness? Their crime was their desire and
hunger for liberty and freedom. They desired to live in dignity in the land of their ancestors.
Humanity betrayed its essence as it watched unconcerned and unmoved by the Biafran people’s
suffering while their annihilation unfolds before the very eyes of the world community.

compare the slow passage of time with the callous slaughter and the starvation of the
millions ofinnocent cut off before their time. They lived with faith and hope .Not ali but
most. And surely most died with faith in God Chukwu Abiama, in life, in the goodness that
even flarnes cannot destroy May we find a way to increase the strength of that faith, that
trust, that sure sense that life and soul endure beyond this body’s death.
