RESOLUTION OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus
Having in mind
the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and
the Kyoto Protocol linked therewith,
Recalling
the unanimous resolutions of the House on Climate Change of 1 December 2011, 25
November 2010, 18 February 2010, 5 November 2009 and 11 December 2008,
Having in mind
the Paris Agreement on Climate Change of December 2015, ratified by the
House on 23 December 2016,
Underlining
that the Paris Agreement constitutes a milestone in addressing climate change,
Recalling
that, in Paris, in 2015, the USA committed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions
by 26-28% below the 2005 levels by 2025,
as the world’s second largest
emitter,
Reiterating
that climate change affects all countries and all peoples indiscriminately and that
addressing it requires global co-operation,
Resolves as follows:
1.
Reaffirms
its adherence and commitment to the objectives of the Paris Agreement, by
contributing and reinforcing the endeavours of all Member States of the European Union and
other countries in the world to tackle climate change,
2.
Joins its voice
with the voices of other Member States of the European Union and its
institutions and
expresses
its disappointment at the extremely disturbing development that
constitutes the decision of the USA to withdraw from the Paris Agreement,
3.
Trusts
that there is still margin for the USA to revise its decision and rejoin the universal
struggle against climate change.
23 June 2017.
