Dear Speaker,
The Italian Chamber of Deputies, the City of Turin and the Council of Europe are organising an
Interparliamentary Conference of the 47 Council of Europe member States on the
European Social Charter,
which will be held on 17 March 2016 in the Council Chamber of the Turin
City Hall.
The aim of the Conference is to provide a venue for European parliamentarians to discuss the
implementation of the rights guaranteed by the European Social Charter at a national level.
The main focus of the Conference will be the promotion of the European Social Charter, including
how, by acting together, we can secure ratification of the revised treaty by all member States as well
as the endorsement of the collective complaints procedure. We would also welcome a broader
discussion on the further development of social policies in today’s Europe, taking into account the
need to promote more cohesive and inclusive societies.
Following the Conference, on the morning of 18 March, in the Great Hall of the University of Turin, a
public Forum
will be held on the issue of
social rights in Europe,
to which we are also pleased to
invite the parliamentary delegation from your country.
We would be honoured if you could attend this important two-day event, a key step in the ratification
process of the revised European Social Charter.
Draft programmes of the Conference and of the Forum are attached. Practical information will follow
shortly.
We look forward to welcoming you, or the person who chairs the relevant Committee(s) in your
Assembly, in Turin on 17 and 18 March 2016.
Yours sincerely,

Speaker of the Chamber of
Deputies of the Italian
