Invitation Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Human Trafficking in the Digital Age
13 – 14 March 2016
Dear Sir/Madam,
The House of Representatives and the Senate of the States-General of the Netherlands are pleased to
invite you to the Inter-parliamentary Conference on Human Trafficking in the Digital Age, to take place
on March 13 –14, 2016 in The Hague. This conference is organised within the Parliamentary dimension
of the Dutch EU Presidency for chairpersons of the competent committees.
This unique conference focusses on the relationship between Human Trafficking and the Internet. The
opening session will focus on the European policy agenda in the area of Human Trafficking and the
Internet. Therefore we have invited the following key note speakers: Mr Ard van der Steur, minister for
Security and Justice of the Netherlands, Ms Myria Vassiliadou, EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator and Ms
Corinne Dettmeijer-Vermeulen, Dutch National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings.
After this opening session we plan to discuss three aspects of the main theme in greater detail in
plenary panels: I Human Trafficking and the Internet: How the internet is changing the methods of
human traffickers, II Cyberspace for protection and for the prevention of human trafficking and III
Tracking of digital footprints: The Internet as an instrument of investigation.
In light of the current migration crisis the Parliament has decided to organise an additional session on
Migration. This session will take place in parallel to two sessions II and III. In order to enable
representation from parliaments at both parallel panels, the Netherlands Parliament has decided to
allow one extra participant per Parliament. The maximum number of participants per Parliament is
therefore limited to three. Bicameral parliaments are kindly requested to organise their delegations
accordingly.
The session on Migration accommodates one participant per Parliament.
The draft agenda for the meeting and practical information are attached.
Registration for this event will open on the 25
th
of February 2016. We kindly ask you to register before
March 8 at 12.00 CET (noon). After this deadline for registration we will send you a request to indicate
which member of your delegation will participate in the session on Migration.
Updates regarding the event will be posted on the website of the parliamentary dimension of the Dutch
EU Presidency
