Invitation Inter-parliamentary Conference on Energy in The Hague 3 – 4 April 2016
Dear Sir/Madam,
The House of Representatives and the Senate of the States-General of the Netherlands are pleased to invite you to the
Inter-parliamentary Conference on Energy, to take place on April 3 – 4, 2016 in The Hague. This conference is organised
within the Parliamentary dimension of the Dutch EU Presidency for chairpersons of the competent committees.
The Conference will be attended by chairpersons from committees dealing with energy and climate change from
the 28 national parliaments of the European Union as well as the chairpersons of the relevant committees of the
European Parliament. The conference will centre around the following question: How to speed up the cost-effective
transition towards a clean, competitive and secure Energy Future?
The opening session will start with keynote speeches by Mr Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European
Commission for the Energy Union, Mr Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and
Fisheries, and Mr Henk Kamp, minister for Economic Affairs of the Netherlands. After this opening session we plan a
panel debate with presentations by Mr Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Mr Andrew
Steer, President of the World Resources Institute, and Mr Feike Sijbesma, Chairman of the Managing Board of DSM,
moderated by Mr Kamran Ullah. In the afternoon we plan to discuss four aspects of the main theme in greater detail
in plenary panels: I Energy infrastructure and security of supply, II Energy conservation – Energy saving cities,
III Renewable energy sources and IV Circular economy. Further details can be found in the draft programme and
practical information that have been enclosed with this invitation.
Given the wide scope of the topic of this conference, the Parliament has decided to deviate from the usual
invitation policy and
set the maximum number of Parliamentarians per Parliament to three
instead of two. Bicameral
parliaments are kindly requested to organise their delegations accordingly.
We kindly ask you to register before March 15 at 12.00 CET (noon). After this deadline we will send you a request
to indicate which session (first, second and third choice) you would prefer to attend. Updates regarding the event will
be posted on the website of the parliamentary dimension of the Dutch EU Presidency
www.parleu2016.nl.
All relevant
conference documents will also be made available here.
Should you have any further questions, please contact us via
We look forward to
receiving you in The Hague.
