Widening income inequality is the defining challenge of our
time. This session will explore the extent of inequality, its
drivers, consequences, and what to do about it. While
there is no one size fits all approach to tackling inequality,
the nature of appropriate policies depends on the
underlying drivers and country-specific policy and
institutional settings. However, it is important for
policymakers to focus on the poor and the middle class to
lower inequality and boost growth.
Speaker (tbc):
Kalpana Kochhar, Deputy Director, IMF Asia and

About 3.5 billion people live in countries rich in oil, gas or

poverty stemming from weak macroeconomic capacities.
This session provides an overview on how the IMF technical
assistance helps countries build stable macroeconomic
policy environment for exploration and exploitation of
natural resources so that countries get a fair share of their
natural resource wealth and invest and spend it wisely thus
generating a substantial benefit for poverty reduction and
boosting shared prosperity.
