The
Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP),
the global network of female parliamentarians and
the
Senate of Mexico,
have the honour of inviting you, and a delegation of female Parliamentarians
from your Chamber, to the
WIP Mexico Summit on 7-9 October 2015 in Mexico City.
As a joint initiative by WIP and the Mexican Senate, and in co-operation with international institutions,
the WIP Mexico Summit will gather female Parliamentarians from all over the world. The programme
includes keynote speeches, break-out sessions and interactive panel discussions.
The WIP Mexico Summit will mark the
40th anniversary of the First UN World Conference on the
Status of Women held in Mexico in 1975.
It also comes after the 2014 Constitutional reform, through
which Mexico enshrined gender equality and women’s empowerment in its highest legal framework.
The amended Constitution now obliges political parties to respect the principle of gender parity in the
composition of candidates’ lists for elective office. The WIP Mexico Summit will provide an opportunity
to take stock of the initial results of this reform, shortly after the country’s legislative elections.
It would be a great honour and indeed send a strong signal, if a delegation of female Parliamentarians
from your Parliament could join us at the WIP Mexico Summit. It would pay tribute to the dedication
of your Parliament and your country to supporting gender equality and to advancing society by
encouraging female participation in politics. Moreover, the WIP Mexico Summit will provide
participating parliamentarians with the unique opportunity to meet and exchange with peers from all
over the world.
With this in mind, we kindly invite you to set up a delegation of female Members of your Parliament
to participate in the WIP Mexico Summit.
