Academic background
Dr. Osotimehin completed his medical studies at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, in 1972 and received a
doctorate in medicine from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom in 1979.

Dr. Osotimehin serves on various advisory boards and committees, including the Family Planning 2020;
Reference Group and the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Population Dynamics.
Dr. Osotimehin received the Nigerian national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger, in December
2005.
Dr. Osotimehin was born 6 February 1949, he is married and has five children.
