The Danish Ministry of Justice presents its compliments to the Embassy of
the Republic of Turkey.
From 1 July 2014 it has been possible for young foreigners who are born
and raised in Denmark under certain conditions to gain Danish citizenship
by declaration.
One of the conditions in order to gain Danish citizenship by declaration is
that the young foreigner documents that he or she when gaining Danish
citizenship loses his or her citizenship in other states.
According to Danish media it is not possible for the Embassy of the Re-
public of Turkey to issue a conditional certificate or similar documenting
that the person in question loses his or her Turkish citizenship when gain-
ing Danish citizenship.
A considerable part of the persons subject to the new regulation on gaining
Danish citizenship by declaration are Turkish citizens.
In order to clarify the relation between the Danish and the Turkish regula-
tions the Danish Ministry of Justice kindly asks the Embassy of the Repub-
lic of Turkey for a meeting. Please contact the Ministry of Justice, Nation-
ality Division, Helle Sidenius, telephone 72 26 87 58, e-mail [email protected].
The Ministry avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of
the Republic of Turkey the assurances of its highest consideration.
Yours sincerely
Helle Sidenius
