Organisation Strategy for
Denmark’s engagement with
International HIV/AIDS Alliance (IHAA)
2014-2017
The work of the Alliance
International HIV/AIDS Alliance (IHAA)
is a global partnership of nationally-based,
independent civil society organisations
which aims to secure the human rights of all
people affected by HIV/AIDS in low- and
middle income countries, with a particular
emphasis on vulnerable and marginalised
population groups. IHAA is particularly
concerned with the access to health services
of groups exposed to stigmatisation and
discrimination, such as commercial sex
workers, men having sex with men etc. It
has a strong track record in the area of
ensuring equal and non-discriminatory
access to services and information.
Denmark supports IHAA because
IHAA focuses on the human rights of
key populations which are often
marginalised.
IHAA works towards integrating
services for HIV and sexual and
reproductive health and rights
Key challenges for IHAA
Increased hostility towards human rights
of key populations constitutes an
impediment to a human rights based
approach to delivery of HIV services.
Decreasing levels of funds available.
Denmark will expect IHAA to
Address the rights of key populations
and other marginalised groups to access
information and services on equal terms
with everyone else.
Promote integrated services,
comprehensive sexuality education and
youth friendly services.
Denmark will follow-up by
Monitoring Danish priority areas based
on IHAA’s own framework
Participating in annual donor meetings.
