Dear Christian Juhl,
Please find Invitation to a Conference on Western Sahara in Spain: EUCOCO 39th 2014.
EUCOCO 39th 2014
November 14
th
, and 15
th
, | Madrid
The annual date of the most important European Solidarity Movement with
the Saharawi People
Faculty of Information Sciences. Complutense University of Madrid.
The European Conference for support and Solidarity with the Saharawi
People (EUCOCO)
has been there since 1975, every year in a different European city:
Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Valencia, Brussels, Modena, Vitoria-Gasteiz…
The EUCOCO is, without a doubt,
the most important annual meeting of the
European Solidarity Movement with the Saharawi People,
which has little by
little gained a global scale. Although the word European is still used, EUCOCO welcomes
people from all over the world.
Government representatives that recognize the SADR, national and international elective
representatives and members of parliaments, regional governments, town councils of
Spain, political and Trade Union organizations, associations of friends of the Saharawi
people, NGOs in general, jurists, personalities from the cultural world… All of them
participate every year in this
mandatory MEETING on SOLIDARITY.
So does, at the highest level, the Saharawi people, represented by the President of the
SADR and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front with other authorities of the Saharawi
Government, as well as Human Rights activists, Saharawi ambassadors and delegates in
different countries.
After the two last editions that were held in Seville and Rome, respectively, this year
Madrid will be the city that holds the 39
th
EUCOCO.
The Spanish capital,
characterized by its hospitality and heterogeneity, will constitute a decisive
meeting point for the international community efforts to advance towards the
peaceful settlement of the conflict, coordinating the support to the Saharawi
people in their way to FREEDOM.

Western Sahara ( VESTSAHARA)
Africa's last colony
In 1963, the United Nations (UN) included Western Sahara in the list of countries to be decolonized and asserted the
right of the Saharawi people to self-determination. In 1966 the UN, for the first time, passed a resolution calling for this
self-determination to be exercised by a referendum. On 31 October 1975, Morocco and Mauritania invaded Western
Sahara as Spain (the former colonial power) looked on. The Saharawi people were expelled from their homes by force,
including the use of napalm. In 1991 the United Nations brokered a ceasefire and agreed to organize a referendum in
which the Saharawi people could vote on the future of Western Sahara. Morocco still refuses to allow UN sponsored
referendum to take place.
