Emne:
Fundamental Rights Conference 2014, 10-11 November 2014, Rome
Dear National Parliamentary Focal Points,
On
10-11 November 2014,
FRA in cooperation with the Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU will host
the annual Fundamental Rights Conference (FRC) 2014 in Rome. This year’s conference will be dedicated to
the issue of
migration and forced migration, to the importance of taking a fundamental rights-based
approach to implementing EU migration policies.
About the conference
In light of the recently adopted
Strategic Guidelines for legislative and policy planning in the area of
freedom, security and justice,
the Conference will debate key fundamental rights challenges in EU migration
policy; and in particular in the fields of border management, asylum but also migrant integration. In this
context, the conference will discuss how to alleviate the effects of the current migration pressures at EU’s
external sea and land borders, while fully respecting fundamental rights. It will also focus on how migration
and active inclusion policies should be based on fundamental rights, while also promoting social cohesion
and migrants’ empowerment in European societies.
The high level event will bring together more than
250 policy makers, experts and practitioners
from EU
institutions and bodies, international organisations, national governments and parliaments, law
enforcement authorities, civil society and the academia.
It will take place the first day in the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament and the second day in
the School of Administration of the Ministry of Interior.
The preliminary programme of the Fundamental Rights Conference 2014 is attached for your information.
Due to limited number of participants, we would welcome your support in identifying one relevant
Member of Parliament interested in the conference, preferably members of the relevant parliamentary
committees working on the issues of the conference. Your support is much appreciated to identify
Parliaments’ delegates that can actively participate and provide input in the event.
We would appreciate if you could send the names, function and contact details of national government
delegates to
[email protected]
at your earliest convenience, but
no later than 10 September.
