SwedenIn early 2014, the governmenthas decided that the TransportAdministration must act quicklyto new main lines in Sweden. The issue of new ordinarycourses have been updated inthe fall when a series of trainaccidents caused byinadequate maintenanceoccurred during the shortperiod.Magnetic-train in Götaland haspreviously studied the issuefrom the perspective magnetic-trains.Link

Welcome to the frist inter-Nordicnewsletters about magnetic-trains..

When maglev mentioned talkedoften about Shanghai MaglevTransportation as if they were theonly commercial banana. Actuallythere are quite a numbermagnetic-tracks around the world.Linimo is one of the magnetcourses that carry mostpassengers per day. The track isused as a commuter train systemin Nagoya, Japan.Total cost of the system was theequivalent of 2 billion Swedishkronor, equivalent to just under250mkr/km.Linimo is one of the courses withthe lowest km cost in operationtoday. There were several costlycauses of the track, including thetrack was built as a prototype andhas walkways on both sides of thetrack along the entire route.
This is not a professionalinvestigation, but only a few differentoptions of how a stretch could go. Allcalculations are made with the sameprogram as magnetic-trainsScandinavians official report uses.Total distance: 270-285kmEstimated cost: 51-59mrd KrStations: Up to 6Population Surface: 1.6M centrallyTotal population: about 2.6M metroDirect travel documents:470k/månadFurther connecting: 1400k/monthKm cost directly: 105-117öre/km+ Connection Copenhagen: 59-63öre+ Connection Stockholm: 61-67öre+ connecting both: 49-52öre/km(Estimated using the same model. Themodel is not optimized for the conditions onthe route, and therefore may in part wherethe expected real earnings)
DenmarkDanish minister to visit Chinaand Japan. Two countries thathave both magnetic-trains andmagnet courses. Thedelegation is expected to be inJapan and China from 18 to 25January.Link
See map overleaf. Departure fromOslo, there are basically two roadssouth out of town. The cheaperalternative is to follow the existingrail line straight east and finally ashort tunnel. A more expensive butshorter route is a tunnel directlysouth east of Oslo.About 50 km south of Oslo, it isappropriate to prepare the latterfurther connected to Stockholm. This may also be a suitable locationfor a Northern depot.Further south in Fredrikstad andHalden, a suitable intermediatestops to be. When the cities arerelatively close together and are notparticularly large, it is onlyeconomical to stop the trains ineither cities. This can be solved byconnecting train, or a system whereevery other tour stops in each of thecities. On the Swedish side of the border, there is a similar problem betweenUddevalla and Trollhättan. But whenthe cities are fully in angle with theroute, it is not possible to let everyother trains stop at each station.Continue page 2
InternationalJapan has granted loans to theU.S. about to begin a pathbetween Washington DC andBaltimore. The track isscheduled to be later extendedto Boston.Kilometer cost for the intendedrunway is expected to berelatively high, more than 800million per km. This is due to acombination of the veryexpensive plant conditions anduse of the JapaneseSC-maglev.More information

Är Linimo en framgång? Ur enekonomisk synvinkel är Linimoingen framgång. Biljettintäkternatäcker driftkostnaderna, men interäntekostnaderna.
Another option is to pull out the trackinland of Gothenburg. This solutionis in the short term more expensive, but has the advantage that if thetrack is built on towardsCopenhagen and / or Stockholm ,no further path expanded fromGothenburg. With the connection to Stockholmand Copenhagen , a solution of thistype can be advantageous as itallows you have to change out oftown and thus drastically reducestraffic in Gothenburg city center.Make even more local and regionaltrains can use the web as morecapacity is released .Overall , this route is considered tohave good base and relatively lowconstruction costs , then theintermediate terrain is favorable formagnetic tracks. However, a marketeconomic viability questionablewithout further connection. Withconnection to either Stockholm orCopenhagen conditions changesignificantly. Interestingly contributeeither connecting more to theincreased passenger densities onthe track than all locations along theroute together . With a hub atLandvetter airport , giving Oslo andCopenhagen residents access toanother airport .

Lifting and controlling functions inthe opposite way. The outer andlower edge of the path is lined withsteel. It sits electromagnet atcorresponding locations on the trainthat lift and control it. The train ispowered by a skid from the runway. The method is very simple andrelatively inexpensive. One problem is that a currentmagnetic field is generated in theweb. This field creates eddycurrents.Vortex in itself creates a resistanceto the train moves forward. Which atlow speeds creates relatively smalllosses, but increases as speedincreases. The plate is divided intosections to minimize losses, butdespite limited top speed of justover 100km / hThis magnetic-train-system is one ofthe most used. And used except inLinimo even in Brimingham maglev,M Bahan (Berlin), S1 (Beijing) andRotem (Incheon). Linimo was thefirst who used the system to a full-scale commuter line.

Technology ExplainedHow does Linimo workLinimo uses the very simplest typeof magnetic-train principle. The train is driven by a 3-phasealternating magnetic field in thetrack runs a plate in the bottom ofthe train forward, this is the onlyactive part of the track, while thecorresponding part of the traincompletely passive. This method isvery cheap, but have higher lossesthan other options.
Toward Gothenburg there are twoprincipal possibilities to enter thetrain station. The most obvious solution is tofollow the “Göta Älv” or E6 straightinto the train station. This provides ashorter and straighter road to highercost per kilometer as a result.
